For a smooth hotel arrival, carry your passport, the reservation confirmation and the payment card required by your booking. Confirm the property name and branch before traveling. A booking receipt tells you what you reserved; it does not necessarily mean the room is ready or every charge has been paid.
Read these five booking details before departure
- Guest name: use the name that matches the traveler’s identification. If someone else paid, ask the property what authorization or card evidence it requires.
- Arrival date and room-access time: distinguish the calendar date from an arrival after midnight.
- Payment status: prepaid, pay at property and a card used only as a guarantee are different arrangements.
- Occupancy: confirm adults, children, bed setup and any extra-person charge.
- Late arrival: check reception hours and how to obtain access if staff are not present.
Check-in times are property policies
As concrete examples, L7 MYEONGDONG’s official room page lists check-in at 15:00 and checkout at 11:00. Toyoko Inn Seoul Yeongdeungpo’s property page lists 15:00 and 10:00. Your booked rate can have different conditions, so use the confirmation for your exact stay rather than treating either example as a Korean national rule.
Illustrative late-arrival case: landing late on October 22 and reaching the hotel at 01:00 on October 23 usually requires arranging the night beginning October 22 if you want immediate room access. A reservation beginning October 23 may not provide a room until that afternoon. Send the actual arrival date and time in writing and ask the hotel to confirm the booking will be held.
Hello, my booking is under [full name], confirmation [number], for [dates]. I expect to reach the hotel at [time and date]. Please confirm the room will be held and explain any after-hours entry instructions.

At the desk
- Show your passport and reservation. For a group, have each guest’s identification available rather than assuming the lead guest’s document is sufficient.
- Ask what remains payable and whether the card transaction is a purchase or temporary authorization.
- If a deposit or hold is required, ask the amount, accepted card type, release process and whether the issuer can take additional time to restore available funds.
- Confirm checkout time, breakfast arrangements if included, Wi-Fi instructions and access after reception closes.
There is no universal deposit amount given here. A debit-card hold can affect your available spending money, so ask before presenting a card you depend on for the rest of the trip. Keep the hotel receipt and compare it with the booking rather than assuming an exchange-rate difference is an extra hotel charge.
If you arrive before the room is ready
Ask separately about early room access and luggage storage. The property may offer one without the other, and an early room may involve a fee. Request the final price before accepting. Toyoko Inn’s general guest guidance describes luggage storage from the morning subject to space, but that is not a guarantee for every property or for collection after checkout.
Keep your passport, medicine, wallet and arrival documents in your day bag. If the hotel cannot hold luggage, choose a storage location you can return to before its closing time. Do not book an afternoon activity that depends on an unconfirmed early check-in.
Problems worth resolving before travel
Guests under the hotel’s minimum age, unaccompanied minors, bookings under another person’s name and self-check-in properties need written clarification. Age and guardian-document rules are property-specific. A foreign passport does not remove those rules, and a reservation platform accepting payment does not necessarily confirm eligibility.
If the name or dates are wrong, contact both the booking channel and the hotel and retain the corrected confirmation. If your passport is unavailable, explain that before arrival and ask what documentation the property can accept; do not assume a phone photograph is an equivalent substitute.
